Out-fucking-standing.
Hah, perfect!
This comic just adds to the pile of willful misconceptions of Dr. Dennett’s work. I, in turn, will add to the pile of dead puppies.
Well, I was going to have Dennett’s dialog in the fourth panel read “You all could just stop willfully misconceiving my work and realize that I actually have astonishingly clear and precise explanations of consciousness that show what it is and how it works while also undeniably alleviating any possible concerns that I am sidestepping the really difficult issues rather than addressing them”, but it didn’t seem quite as funny.
and he’s on a unicorn!
all of your philosopher comics should have them on a unicorn in the last panel, with no explanation.
Just as an exercise, I’d love it if someone went through e.g. “Consciousness Explained” and tried to translate as many of the arguments as possible into the language of symbolic logic. If nothing else, it would be a chance to identify exactly what the actual arguments are, as opposed to the snotty assertions, rhetorical flourishes and attempts to speculate about and deconstruct the motivations of those who disagree with him.
That said, the unicorn idea is awesome.
Dan Dennett is much taller than that.
