#227: Under Pressure

#227: Under Pressure

I recently read a blog post (which I can’t find now, but if I do I’ll link it) about reviving an inactive blog. They talked about how the longer you go without updating, the more pressure you feel to do something really awesome when you come back, which makes it less and less likely that you’ll post anything new. The advice this blogger gave was to ignore that impulse and just post something. And so that’s what I’ve decided to do here.

The good news is that I finally recently completed and defended my dissertation, which makes me a freshly minted Philosophy PhD. That’s good news for me because I don’t have to think about my dissertation anymore, and it’s good news for you because it means that I can start spending time making comics again! Yay! And just in case you’re ever really really bored sometime, you can totally check out my dissertation here: http://scholarlyrepository.miami.edu/oa_dissertations/997/

Are you ready for the “is there a Dr. on the plane” moment?

  3. chaospet says:

Oh I can’t wait for that! It will be so fun to answer yes to that question, only to immediately crush their hopes by explaining that I am the kind of doctor that can’t possibly help them in any way.

Philosophy and Doctorates — the two great tastes that taste great together. Congratulations, and welcome to the highly remunerative and in-demand world of philosophy.

I see, and appreciate, that your entire thesis is dependent only on our acceptance of the undeniable — that there is in fact a worldwide network of sentient machines out to get us. (I look forward to reading more than the preface, but as you see I’ve grasped the most important arguments.) And seriously, compatibilism is a topic I enjoy, so I’m glad to have the reading material.

Thanks, Wm! I am waiting for someone to start sending me 6 figure paychecks now that I’m a doctor of philosophy, but so far it hasn’t happened. I’m sure it won’t be long though.

    Yay!!!!!!!

Glad to see you back, congratulations on the PhD!

    Thanks Josh!

    chaospet is alive, yay!

  10. Hernandez says:

Oh man, this one kills me. It’s so frequently repeated that hardly anyone questions its truth anymore. And the sad fact is this: If you do what you love for a living, you’ll probably end up loving it a little bit less.
