#173 The Horror of the Oral Dissertation Defense

#173 The Horror of the Oral Dissertation Defense

Today’s comic is dedicated to my good friend Ben Burgis, who is in fact giving the oral defense of his dissertation for his PhD in Philosophy today.

Ben (in case you’ve never looked at his blog) is defending monaletheism from the assaults of dialetheists like Graham Priest. As much as I have fun with dialetheism here to “solve” puzzles, I still very much hope that Ben passes and that we can thus declare dialetheism defeated forever, because:

a) Ben is my friend, and so it wouldn’t be very nice of me NOT to wish him success.

b) If Ben fails, this comic will really come off as excessively cruel.

c) Once Ben has been awarded his PhD, it will finally be the ideal moment to take his head, and with it all of his philosophical knowledge and power!*

So best of luck Ben, looking forward to your victory and the festivities that will follow!

* Ben, if you happen to read this before your defense, ignore (c), and also ignore the sword that I bring to your celebration. It’s just for decoration, really.
