Hey Obama fans – tired of your annoying lefty friends criticizing our most exalted and magnificent leader? Then try “The Terminator Defense”! It’s sure to change their minds, or at the very least get them to shut up and sit in stunned silence for a few minutes.
Also for those of you keeping score, this is yet another comic gleaned from Facebook conversations with the good Dr. Burgis. Two guesses which of us was arguing which position.

Stunned silence FTW.

Nice.
Ah. When having only two parties really does do you in… Then again, the US would probably not work with more than two. Why? Well, these two hardly disagree on anything anyway! Sooo… What would a third party do that would really differentiate it from the Repubs and Demos? That the American populace would actually tolerate?
Most third parties in the US sting then die, see the “People’s Party” (populist scum, all of them! RRRAAARRGHG!!!!). Many of their very useful ideas were eventually co-opted by the Republican party and the Progressives… A third party cannot survive for long…
So, yes, it’s a choice between more of the same old and the apocalypse… And so we can blame the upcoming apocalypse on apathetic voters…
And another fun fact! Did you know that there were only a handful of elections in the USA where the two opposing parties were actually distinct in ideology? 1896, McKinley and Bryant for example… but guess what? The last presidential election wasn’t one. Big surprise there.
There I go, ranting again! Huh… Oh and I love populists, they’re grrrrreat!
Cassie, seeing the sentence “Nice.” forces me to post the following political ad (or parody of one, I don’t care): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tKpPHNt_pA

Canuovea: The path I see to a three party system is this – the Green Party and the Libertarian Party need to rise to prominence at the exact same time, precisely when the Democrats/Republicans fuse into a single party. It could totally happen.
Wm, nice.
As you can tell, that’s not a three-party system; it’s merely a two party system with different parties.
And everyone knows… The closer the Dems and Reps get to being identical, the more they’ll hate each other. Because the closer they are to identical, the closer their immediate goals will become, and only one of them can exclusively hold the goal at the same time.
Greens versus Libertarians, though… Interesting.

That’s not untrue.
Oh yes, the dear dr. Burgis! So even tho Obama did not bring much change, and thus failed to carry out his promise. The alternative was much worse. So it was still a good thing.
Not only was it a good thing, but since the alternative was the apocalypse, Obama’s presidency is a WONDERFUL thing. Hurray for Obama!
[…] analys av många väljares besvikelse över Obama, presenterad av Chaospet, stämmer väl överens med mitt sätt att tänka om borgerliga regeringar i Sverige: de är bra, […]
You know what? That does make a kind of sense. It’s like “the enemy of my enemy is my friend.” It’s also a pessimists outlook… or maybe an optimist. Yeah, optimist works slightly better… see “it could be worse…”
This is more like basic moral reasoning:
We have to choose between A or B.
B is much worse than A.
Thus, we should choose A.
sweet
Unfortunately, basic moral reasoning never appears in the real world. It’s usually more along the lines of “If we choose A, we violate moral principle Y; if we choose B, we violate moral principle Z. Which one to choose?”
It must be nice to be a philosophical zombie and not actually experience any of that.
(Question: is that what nirvana and/or Atman is about?)
haha, i don’t need two guesses. Ben was CLEARLY the Obama apologist.
eheh. heh. HAHAHAHA.
No but srsly, Ben’s right and your Terminator defense sucks. 😛
Haha whatevs Mish, even Ben acknowledged that he was defeated. 😉
