Canuovea: Well, another necessary condition for prequel-hood (in the sense I'm dicussing here, anyway) is that the prequel story has to be told AFTER the original story. Since the Hobbit was written before LOTR, it's not a prequel; rather, LOTR is the sequel.

But using that logic... The Hobbit is a prequel as well! Oh noes!

I wonder if it makes sense that if something is a sequel then it must have a prequel, and if something is a sequel it must have a prequel. And even if a prequel is a sequel as well, it means that... uh... hold on a moment...

And episode 2 was awful...

Legion: I think of Terminator Salvation as a prequel, because the events of the film (John Connor's rise to power, meeting Kyle Reese, etc) are all things that are hinted at in the pasts of many of the characters of the early films (and of course the TV series). And thus it suffers from the problem that most prequels suffer from; mythic past events (like John Connor's rise to power, the Clone Wars, etc) are almost always MUCH cooler when vaguely hinted at than when you dedicate a film to exploring them in detail.

skalogy: Yup, pretty much.

Wait, what about Episode II... that's a prequel AND a sequel... that pretty much means it was guaranteed to be the WORST MOVIE EVER!
