progress
I have made my first progress on the dissertation writing month project thingy. 3157 words, to be exact. I am 15% of the way there!
In other news, I’m getting worried about the increasing likelihood that Hilary Clinton is going to win the Democratic nomination. Really worried. Watching her in the debates is so frustrating, she can’t give a clear answer on anything. At least when Bill was evasive, he did with charm. She likes Spitzer’s plan to provide licenses for illegal immigrants, but she’s not for it. She is both for and against the presidential right to enact torture (in extraordinary circumstances). She’s against the war, but she voted for it, and her stated plans will keep us in Iraq for years (to say nothing of her Bush-esque statements regarding Iran). She voted for the Patriot Act, and for its renewal in 2006. Etc etc…
In short, it’s sounding more and more like more of the same with Clinton… it’s becoming increasingly difficult to identify and clear, substantive differences between her and someone like Guiliani. And as much as I’d like to feel otherwise, the other major Dem candidates don’t inspire much more confidance.
This election cycle so far just leaves me feeling faintly nauseous. There isn’t anyone I’d feel very happy about voting for. Except for Ron Paul.
Yup, Ron Paul.
Yes, he’s a libertarian, which means I very strongly disagree with much of what he says. But he is SO RIGHT and so forceful on civil liberty issues and on the madness of nation building. And he doesn’t double talk - he says exactly what he believes, and he defends it. Such a rare thing in politics…
If it came down to Paul vs. Clinton (very unlikely, but we can hope!), I think I’d probably vote for Paul.
